This dress is named after Nya, also known as buffalo.
The African buffalo is renowned as a dangerous animal. It has two sharp, upward-curving horns. The buffalo is a royal symbol in Kom Fondom.
It was tattooed on women. Through this, people could see that the woman was from the palace, and they should not attempt to vie for her attention.
These women chose their lovers themselves. Once the girl had seen her first potential lover, it was time for the tattoo specialist to perform the art (Check the showcased image). According to the Kom, this was to bestow on her a special status among commoners and also served as a warning to men who intended asking her hand in marriage.
