This bubu is made from bogolan prints fabric. Bogolan comes from the Bamanan weavers of Mali (West Africa). The term is made up of two words: "Bogo" meaning "earth, clay" and "lan" meaning "made with". It refers both to a women's loincloth and to the ancestral dyeing technique used to create it.
The bubu is named after Mambila. Mambila is a tribe in Cameroon, where they rely on Ngaame (spider), especially from Somie, to bring message from the ancestors, like other various Cameroonian cultures (Bafia, Ewondo, Bamoun).
