This boubou takes its name from the character Nden bobo, a spider in a Mvet tale. Nden bobo is an arrogant spider who challenges God. The tale goes on to say that she "stood in her place, forehead high, picking the leaves off the tree", an Eton (Beti/Fang) expression used to describe her arrogance.
