Barka Protective Ring (Munyal)
The ring bears an emblem of the Fulani culture: the hoof of the cow. In this culture, it symbolizes the barka: prosperity, fertility and protection.
The sign of the Cow is the imprint of its hoof. The bovid imprint, two semicircular depressions separated by a median projection, gave rise to the beneficial mark by excellence, the slit, and to a predilection for objects or spaces divided in two by a furrow, or pinched in the middle. This sign of the slit is a basic connotation of the barka.
As such, it is found in all rituals (in the broadest sense) that aim to protect, develop or recover the barka of the group. The individual who has barka knows how to defend himself against evil (also called eyes that hurt or "piDirki gite" in Fulani)
